The Google Nexus 4 is one of the most popular Android devices currently available. It is also highly customizable and it runs on pure Android stock ROMs. With USB Drivers installed on your computer will be able to use official update zip files from Google and install new firmwares. Also, USB drivers will allow you to connect the phone with your PC and transfer files between them.
If you want to configure Android SDK too, then you simply have to download it from here. Extract its contents on the C: partition and make sure that any future update files you download are save to SDK> platform-tool folder.
Follow all the steps below and you will learn how to successfully install the Nexus 4 USB Drivers on your computer.
Use this first guide in case you've never plugged in the Nexus 4 into your PC before.
- Download the USB Driver rar file for Windows from here for here.
- Extract the contents of this rar and save them on your computer. Make sure to place the extracted files in a single folder.
- Connect the Nexus 4 to your computer via USB Cable.
- When you're prompted to install a new driver you have to select the option that says 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
- do not select 'browse for driver software on my computer'. - Now you should select the 'Have Disk' option.
- Browse your PC for the folder created in step 2. Point for the 'usb driver' folder and confirm installation of these drivers.
That was the first guide. The second tutorial is destined for users who have already connected the Nexus 4 with their computer at least once.
Here's how to do it:
Make sure have the USB Drivers downloaded. The links are listed above in the first tutorial.
- Enable the USB Debugging from Developer Options.
- if Developer Options isn't shown, then you need to un-hide it: go to Settings, scroll down and open About Device, scroll down and tap seven times on the Build Number section. - After the USB Debugging is enabled you simply need to connect the Nexus 4 with your computer.
- Now, open the Device Manager window in your computer.
- Find your Nexus 4 in the Device Manager list, it might be listed under 'Other devices' or 'Android devices'.
- Right click on the Nexus 4 text and click the 'Uninstall' option.
- In the next dialog box displayed you should select 'Delete the driver software for this device'. Confirm process.
- Return to Device Managed and refresh the list.
- Find your phone again and then click on the 'Update Driver Software' option.
- Now you should see a new driver installation window, select the 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
- do not select 'browse for driver software on my computer'. - Next you have to select 'have disk' option and guide the wizard to the 'usb_driver folder.
- Unplug the smartphone from PC when the installation is completed, and then reboot your computer.
- Connect the Nexus 4 to your PC after restart and everything should work just fine.

· 4 years agoAfter unzipping the rar file, I'm presented with two options: amd64 and i386. I have NO idea what these are..
· 4 years agoThe trick is this. In step 9, when you select 'browse for driver software on my computer’, select 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' and press next. In that menu, keep the manufacturer as '(Generic USB Host)' and the model as 'Generic USB Hub' and select the Have disk option. In this file chooser box, navigate to the .inf file located in your driver folder (it's outside with the folders for amd64 and i386) and proceed. This should install your drivers.
Note: If you are trying to flash your device, once you enter the Fastboot mode, you might have to install the drivers again. Follow the steps again with the modified step 9.
